Five Powerful Ways to Build Your Confidence
By: Ashley and Cilicia
Almost everybody has been in a situation where they walk into a room feeling unsure about themselves, at least once in their lives, maybe more. But some people don’t feel like that, right? Or at least it seems that way. What are their secrets? We’ll let you in on some tips we found that will help build your confidence!
- Leave Yourself Uplifting Messages
- Try leaving yourself a sticky note on the mirror with an uplifting message so that when you get ready in the morning, you’ll have something to brighten your day. Also, tell yourself an uplifting quote when you walk out the door or when you get out of bed. Even something like “I am strong and confident” will get the job done. You are more likely to embody what you say rather than what you think/read.
- Don’t Force Yourself Into Negative Situations
- Getting outside of your comfort zone is healthy for personal growth; however, don’t allow yourself to get into situations where you are panicked. When you are outside of your comfort zone you still have control over your mind/body and you can work on overcoming possible feelings of nervousness. But when you are panicked, controlling your mind becomes very difficult. If you push yourself outside of your comfort zone, try to have a supportive person nearby or one person to call so that you can keep calm.
- Do Something You Love
- Whether that is cooking a meal, reading, or going for a jog, when you do something you love doing, you’ll feel better about yourself. A lot of the time you love doing what you’re good at, and by doing that, you will help yourself to gain confidence. Remember, even though competing in activities can be healthy, doing activities for fun can be really valuable for mental wellness.
- Know Your Worth
- It sounds cheesy, but often you don’t need to change. The only thing holding you back is yourself. Know that you are worth so much more than people know and channel that energy into confidence. Once you know you’re worth it, others’ opinions won’t bother you because you know they can’t change who you are.
- Fake It Till You Make It
- What people see is what people think. If you show others around you that you know what you’re doing, they’ll believe that you know what you’re doing. Soon enough, the confident “act” you put on will become second nature and you will start to actually feel confident.
